A 3 star read
After me, the Great Flood is the second book I’ve gotten to read by Ducharme. It is the story of Lena, who has been struggling as a single mother and her demanding job. She seeks to move out of the city, and soon finds herself moving into a house belonging to an older gentleman called Ellis Delapore. Despite the age difference, the two of them become friends, most likely due to loneliness on both ends.
But after a tragic incident at work, Lena starts to experience weird things in the house. Something isn’t right, and she knows she might have to jeopardize her newfound friendship in order to get out.
I really enjoyed getting to know Lena and Ellis. I especially admired their friendship and how they could open up to each other. There were definitely spooky moments in this novella, even if they came slow and creeping up at you.
I just felt as if something was missing. Maybe it was because the book is only 135 pages long, or maybe it was just me. I wanted more, and I didn’t quite get it. I would’ve liked to learn more about the ending after learning so much about Lena and Ellis’ past.
